Privacy Policy
The short version: ReceiptX processes your receipts entirely on your device. We don't run servers that store your data, we don't require an account, and we don't upload, sell, or track your personal information. This policy explains the details.
1. Who we are
ReceiptX ("ReceiptX", the "App") is developed and published by Axain Studios ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy describes how the App handles information when you use it on your Apple device. We are the "data controller" for the limited purposes described below, although — as explained throughout — the App is designed so that your receipt content stays under your control on your device.
2. Scope of this policy
This policy applies to the ReceiptX iOS application and this website. It does not apply to any third-party services you may choose to interact with through the App (for example, when you share an exported file to another app), or to Apple's operating system and services, which are governed by Apple's own privacy policies.
3. On-device processing
ReceiptX is built around a simple principle: your financial information should stay with you. Accordingly:
- Receipt images you capture or import are processed locally on your device.
- Text recognition (OCR) and the extraction of details such as merchant, date, totals and line items are performed on-device using Apple's Vision framework and our own local logic.
- Categorization, search, analytics, charts and insights are all computed on your device.
- We do not operate cloud servers that receive, store, or process your receipts or expense data.
If we ever introduce an optional cloud-based or AI feature in the future, it will be strictly opt-in, clearly disclosed, and require your explicit consent before any data leaves your device. This policy would be updated before any such feature is released.
4. Information we do not collect
Because ReceiptX runs on-device and has no user accounts, we do not collect, receive, or have access to:
- Your receipt images or the data extracted from them (merchants, amounts, dates, items, notes, categories).
- Your name, email address, phone number, or postal address.
- Your precise or approximate location.
- Contacts, calendars, or other personal content on your device.
- Advertising identifiers, and we do not use the App to build advertising or tracking profiles.
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information, because we do not collect it in the first place.
5. Information stored on your device
The App stores the following only on your device, so that it can function:
- Receipt records — the images you scan or import and the structured details associated with them.
- Your organization data — categories, notes, tags, and any edits you make.
- App settings and preferences — such as whether you have enabled the Face ID / Touch ID app lock.
This data is saved in the App's private storage container on your device. Depending on your device settings, it may be included in your device's local or iCloud backups managed by Apple; those backups are controlled by you and governed by Apple's terms, not by us. Uninstalling the App removes its on-device data.
6. Device permissions
ReceiptX may ask for the following permissions. Each is used only for the stated purpose, and all related processing happens on your device:
- Camera — to photograph paper receipts for scanning.
- Photo Library — to let you import existing receipt photos.
- Face ID / Touch ID — to optionally lock the App and protect your expense data. Biometric authentication is handled entirely by iOS; we never receive your biometric data.
You can review or change these permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app. Declining a permission simply disables the related feature.
7. Purchases
ReceiptX offers a one-time in-app purchase to unlock Premium features. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Apple provides us with limited, aggregated information (such as the fact that a purchase or refund occurred) so we can deliver and restore your purchase. Apple's handling of your payment information is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
8. Third parties
ReceiptX does not embed third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. The only third party inherently involved in the App is Apple, which provides the operating system, the App Store, and the in-app purchase system. When you use the iOS share sheet to export a CSV or PDF to another app or service, that transfer is initiated by you, and the receiving app handles the data under its own privacy policy.
9. Children's privacy
ReceiptX is a general-purpose expense tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the App does not collect personal information from anyone, no special data-collection concerns arise for younger users; however, the App is intended for users who can manage their own financial records.
10. Security
Your data benefits from the security protections built into iOS, including app sandboxing and device encryption when you set a passcode. You can add an extra layer of protection by enabling the optional Face ID / Touch ID app lock. No method of storage is perfectly secure, so we encourage you to keep your device updated and protected with a passcode.
11. Your rights & choices
Because your data lives on your device, you are in direct control of it at all times. You can:
- Access & edit — view and modify any receipt or category within the App.
- Export — generate a CSV file or a PDF report of your data at any time via the share sheet.
- Delete — remove individual receipts, or delete all data by uninstalling the App.
- Manage permissions — grant or revoke camera, photo, and biometric access in iOS Settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA. Since we do not collect or hold your personal information on our own systems, most such requests (access, correction, deletion, portability) are fulfilled directly by you within the App. If you have questions about your rights, contact us using the details below.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new features or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App or on this website. Your continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
